Challenge Our task was to create an IoT vehicle tracking system to display real-time data on a map. Connected devices would continuously update vehicle information such as location, speed, fuel, driving time, and camera footage through the CAN bus, all stored in a database. The solution needed to enable dispatchers to oversee data, generate reports, monitor events, control devices, handle billing, and access fleet management tools via mobile devices or laptops. Solution The client's PoC lacked documentation. We only had the product vision, a basic web app, and some documentation from IoT device manufacturers. The existing codebase couldn't meet the client's goals. The provided app was more of a concept than a complete GPS telematics fleet tracking software, necessitating significant updates, essentially requiring us to rewrite most parts of the app from scratch. Our teams ensured all device data was stored for analysis and could be exported in .csv and .pdf formats for reporting. Continuous data transmission ensured that active fleet tracking devices consistently provided essential vehicle data, including speed, road time, fuel level, GPS position, tire pressure, and live camera feeds. The implemented data visualization features presented collected data on the in-app interactive map and in web reports.
