Together with Jeronimo Martins, we've elevated Biedronka's employee intranet, dlanaswjm.pl, in order to optimize the user experience. The result of our work has brought us 1st place at the Digital Impact Awards in the Best Intranet category. The background Biedronka needed a communication center for all staff members, incorporating features such as news updates, information on employee benefits, messaging capabilities, and access to discount vouchers. Additionally, they aimed to create a dedicated platform for all employees to apply for social packages and to complete necessary documentation. Our primary goal was to create a web app that would promote essential content more visibly and empower the users to find relevant information with ease. The challenge Most of Biedronka’s employees did not have business email accounts, which made the intranet their primary source of information. The client needed the website to be accessible to all employees, mobile-friendly, and aligned with contemporary trends and accessibility standards. The research We've conducted UX Research, including technical workshops with employees, to correctly understand the needs of the users. During the research, the users highlighted the importance of mobile adaptability, home page visibility, and attractive article layouts. This feedback played a crucial role in shaping the direction of our project. We began from mock-up proposals and allowed users to select from three colour schemes. Our aim was to maximise employee satisfaction by improving navigation, adding filtering and sorting options, introducing widgets for popular content, and revamping the homepage. Boosted user engagement To enhance the website’s engagement among Biedronka’s employees, we implemented a jubilarians map, so that the users could congratulate each other on their work anniversaries. We've also added the ‘messages’ page to ensure that all users can easily locate and read messages, thereby always staying up to date. During the holiday season, we introduced a special subpage called the Xmas view, as a delightful addition offering users the opportunity to engage in holiday activities such as competitions, and quizzes. The technology We created an Intranet using Zend Technology, which was integrated into Biedronka’s existing Intranet system. Following the coding phase, we conducted testing to identify and address any issues. Then it was time to launch the new version of the Intranet featuring a fresh layout and additional functionalities. The results 1st place in the Digital Impact Award Together with Biedronka, we won the 1st place in the Digital Impact Awards in the Best Intranet category (under our former company name Cut2Code). Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 standards After conducting a professional audit, which included the active participation of individuals with disabilities, we implemented the necessary changes to ensure the website met the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 standards. After these adjustments were made, a re-audit confirmed the successful implementation of the required solutions. 40.2M recorded page views in 2022 99% registered employees +20% page views year to year +14% users year to year
abka (meaning “little frog” in Polish) stands as the largest and most innovative convenience store chain in Poland, serving more than 3 million customers daily. The network has expanded to around 11,600 stores nationwide, including both traditional attended locations and modern formats like self checkout Nano shops. The background Our journey with abka began by maintaining an older version of their website. After several months, we initiated a full migration from Symfony to WordPress. The challenge The migration wasn’t just about switching to a more user-friendly CMS – it was a strategic decision to restructure the site’s information architecture, improve overall performance, and enhance SEO potential through optimized link management. WordPress also provided a more flexible and scalable foundation for ongoing website development and innovation. The research, design & prep phase Our initial step involved thorough research and analysis. We delved into the trends, examining quantitative and qualitative data from the existing service, utilizing tools like Google Analytics and Hotjar. This groundwork was crucial in understanding the current landscape and user interactions. Following the research, our focus shifted to design. We began by drafting wireframes for mobile and desktop versions of the site, ensuring a seamless user experience across devices. The next stage was the development of the actual design, where our creative team brought the visual aspect of the website to life. Parallel to this, we prepared all the necessary assets for our development team. Content is king – and our approach fully embraced this principle. We carefully curated and strategically integrated existing materials into the new site structure, ensuring clarity, consistency, and user relevance. This phase encompassed not only content migration and implementation but also the application of solid SEO best practices to preserve and enhance the site's search engine performance. The development The development phase was multifaceted. Our team worked diligently, turning the approved designs into a digital reality. A significant milestone was preparing WordPress, with a modular library to allow the client’s team to autonomously build landing pages and new subpages. We designed backend architecture for scalability, including potential future expansions like NFT platforms. We set up and maintained the server on GCP, ensuring robust performance and reliability. Additionally, we integrated the website with Synerise, Snowflake, and Salesforce. The documentation & training An integral part of our process was documentation. We compiled detailed guides and conducted training sessions on the CMS, empowering abka to manage their constantly changing content effectively. The new navigation menu During this project, revamping the navigation menu was a significant modification. In the previous site version, users interacted mostly with three pages. The updated menu navigation version leads users to discover previously overlooked subpages, broadening their engagement at the new website. This adaptation provides higher user commitment. The scalability & security measures When designing the infrastructure for abka, we had to consider many factors specific to this project. abka is one of the most recognizable brands in Poland, so the infrastructure must handle high traffic. Periodic promotions furtherly increase the number of visits, highlighting the need for infrastructure scalability. The brand’s popularity also exposes abka to numerous attacks that must be mitigated. Ensuring the site’s availability around the clock is crucial to abka’s business. Considering all these factors, we built infrastructure on one of the leading cloud providers. We carefully integrated all components to ensure reliability, availability, and security. We included comprehensive monitoring to maintain stability, and developed secure continuous deployment processes to deliver new features. This approach also emphasizes performance, observability, flexibility, and automated tests to ensure everything runs smoothly. The performance Our work on the client’s site brought remarkable improvements in performance, enhanced accessibility, and SEO-friendly solutions, all verified by Google PageSpeed Insights. We achieved this through proven methodologies and focused efforts, ensuring a seamless and efficient online presence for abka. Their mission is to decrease plastic waste in the oceans by transforming it into high-quality products and promoting sustainable fashion. The challenge Firstly, we needed to establish an e-commerce presence using Shopify, ensuring a seamless online shopping experience. Secondly, increasing brand awareness and product sales was crucial. SEADS wanted to educate customers about the importance of sustainable fashion and environmental conservation. Balancing these objectives required creating an online store that effectively conveys its mission and attracts eco-conscious consumers. The research After familiarizing ourselves with the brand guidelines and initial design concepts, we’ve run consultations with stakeholders that allowed us to define the expectations and scope of the project. We conducted market research to understand the target audience’s preferences and behavior. Then we did an SEO Audit, which included recommendations on e-commerce structure optimization and its particular elements. Design The design emphasized the story behind each product, showcasing the transformation of ocean plastic into stylish espadrilles. It was key to show the storytelling character of the idea and mission while implementing it following UX principles to make the store intuitive for customers. Additionally, we included parallax animations to enhance the user experience, making the site dynamic and interactive. The development Our developers, based on the previously established framework, started developing the website based on a previously selected template on Shopify. We integrated features like easy navigation, secure payment options, and detailed product pages. We added an order tracking function that allows customers to monitor their orders and receive status updates, enhancing customer satisfaction and trust. Additionally, we decided to add the ‘customer reviews’ section because we know how important it is for potential customers to read other people’s opinions about products. The development process also included SEO optimization to improve search engine visibility and attract organic traffic. To ensure a flawless user experience, we conducted thorough quality testing. We have implemented Google Analytics and performed a full account setup to measure e-commerce key performance indicators. The results By leveraging Shopify as an e-commerce platform, we created a fully customized, user-friendly, and visually appealing online store enhanced with parallax effects and slideshows to engage visitors. Importantly, Shopify is also easy for online store employees to use.
Studium Przedsi biorczo ci (eng. Entrepreneurship school) is an innovative education platform for expanding business knowledge and managerial competence. The Studium Przedsi biorczo ci service was initiated by abka and is free for every internet user. Every trainee receives a certificate of completion after the course. The background In 2022, Studium Przedsi biorczo ci began its mission to empower individuals with practical business knowledge and managerial skills. Experts from Studium started to collaborate with universities, business incubators, and NGOs to conduct various workshops and training sessions covering diverse aspects of entrepreneurship. Recognizing the growing need for an accessible online educational platform, Studium Przedsi biorczo ci wanted to expand its reach digitally. They needed an e-learning platform that mirrors their offline activities. This online extension ensures that more people can benefit from their expertise, regardless of location. Studium Przedsi biorczo ci is the second project we created with abka, a leading Polish convenience store chain. Check the abka website case study here. The challenge abka aimed to create an educational platform featuring various assets: courses, podcasts, webinars, and articles. Additionally, the website needed to cater to three distinct target groups: new business owners, business development professionals, and foreign entrepreneurs. Ensuring the platform’s cybersecurity and web accessibility was also important. The process During several meetings with the stakeholders, we defined the must-have functionalities and outlined the components of the educational platform that would provide the best learning experience for the users. This initial phase was crucial for setting clear expectations and ensuring all parties aligned on the objectives and deliverables. We started by designing user flow and creating mockups. We then prepared a visual design system for the platform, incorporating a cohesive color scheme and interactive elements. These design elements aimed to enhance user engagement and provide a smooth flow over the website – and as a result the whole user experience. SEO support Before the coding phase, we prepared detailed technical SEO guidelines to ensure the platform’s visibility and search engine performance. We provided ongoing technical SEO support during the implementation and conducted thorough optimization checks after the site had gone live. This approach ensured the platform launched smoothly and maintained strong search engine performance from the very beginning. Theme development & testing We developed the platform theme strongly focused on meeting the established goals. After integrating the content, we conducted manual and automatic testing to ensure the platform functioned seamlessly and met all quality standards. The courses Each course is structured into manageable lessons. It includes interactive quizzes that test knowledge at various stages. To ensure the integrity of the learning process, we implemented measures to prevent users from skipping required videos. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate, adding tangible value to their learning journey. DevOps As part of developing the Studium Przedsi biorczo ci platform, we implemented advanced DevOps practices that enabled seamless integration and automation of deployment processes. We ensured uninterrupted platform availability through continuous performance monitoring and cloud infrastructure management, even during peak traffic periods. Our DevOps approach included automated testing and rapid deployment of new features, accelerating the iterative development process while maintaining the highest standards of security and platform stability. The website segmentation The website was divided into four interconnected sections to enhance functionality and user experience: the Administrative Panel, User Panel, Mentor Panel, and Content Section. This way, each user could easily navigate to relevant content. The training After the implementation phase, we conducted several training sessions for the platform administrators on managing content within WordPress. The training sessions equipped the administrators with the necessary skills to manage the platform efficiently. The maintenance Our involvement has continued after the platform launched. We keep on developing the project by adding new functionalities and taking care of the website’s security. Ongoing maintenance is the key to keeping the platform up-to-date and secure for all users. Accessibility The platform was meticulously designed to ensure ease of use and readability for all users. To achieve this, we incorporated a dedicated accessibility panel that allows users to customize their viewing preferences. This feature ensures that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can navigate and benefit from the resources available on the platform. Creating a modern, high-performing, and user-focused platform became essential to support the company’s strategic vision. The challenge The main challenge of this project was to deliver a fully optimized website that could meet high standards of performance and functionality despite the complexity introduced by WooCommerce integration, custom animations, and a rich visual design. Additionally, the site needed to incorporate advanced e-commerce functionalities to support the Insight Academy, an educational initiative offering paid webinars and courses. Adding to the complexity was a tight deadline driven by planned marketing activities. The development Firstly, the project began with the precise implementation of Insightland’s pre-designed layouts, after our team carefully analyzed the designs to ensure they aligned with the client’s vision and technical requirements. Every element – from unique sections to standard components – was executed precisely. In addition, during the development phase, we also applied the best practices of technical SEO, which was especially important for Insightland given their expertise in this field. The maintenance Since the website’s launch, we have remained actively involved in its development. We continually enhance the project by introducing new features, optimizing performance, and maintaining website security. Our persistent dedication guarantees the platform develops according to user demands and remains in sync with sector standards. Insight Academy As part of the project, we successfully implemented Insight Academy. It is an e-commerce platform for webinars, training sessions, and course registrations. Moreover, we ensured seamless integration of secure payment systems, creating a smooth and intuitive user experience. The scalable and reliable platform supports high traffic and is ready for future development. This part of the platform emphasizes Insightland’s commitment to sharing its expertise and knowledge with professionals and businesses worldwide. The performance We focused our efforts on ensuring that Insightland’s website performs exceptionally well and meets SEO best practices, as verified by Google PageSpeed Insights. Due to advanced optimization techniques and a dedicated approach, the platform now delivers outstanding speed, seamless functionality, and a flawless user experience. This achievement underscores Insightland’s commitment to digital quality and reliability. We delivered a high-performing platform for Insightland, achieving exceptional mobile performance on Google PageSpeed. We succeeded by optimizing website speed, eliminating blocking time, and ensuring a fast loading experience. Mammoth Biosciences is a biotech company that develops the next generation of CRISPR products for healthcare, agriculture, environmental monitoring, biodefense, and more. Mammoth’s mission is to leverage CRISPR’s power to democratize disease detection by bringing accurate and affordable testing out of the laboratory and into the point of care. The company has developed a rapid COVID-19 test designed to handle thousands of samples per day. Mammoth’s co-founder, Jennifer Doudna, was co-awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in chemistry for her pioneering work in CRISPR gene editing. The background To accommodate their rapid growth and the increasing popularity of CRISPR technology, Mammoth decided to invest in a new modern website. They needed a project that would match the current web design and usability trends: an informative website that creates value for the visitors but does not appear cluttered. The challenge Ambiscale’s task was to create a fast, responsive, and interactive website with a content management system. We wanted the client dashboard to be easy to use even by people with limited technical expertise. Moreover, the website should operate at lightspeed even when it’s content-heavy. The client aimed at a detailed and sophisticated look, well-optimized architecture and a carefully planned information hierarchy. We took on the challenge of delivering all of the above within a very limited timeframe. The process We analyzed Mammoth’s requirements and recommended using WordPress to power the new website. WordPress provides an intuitive admin dashboard, multiple customization options, and a rich collection of plugins. To fit the limited timeframe, we assembled a team of six (developers, a project manager, and a quality specialist). The front-end and back-end developers worked side-by-side, so the HTML didn’t have to wait for the CMS or vice versa. This approach streamlined the project implementation and reduced the delivery time. Then, we optimized the website for the best performance on all devices. We utilized the full power of Gutenberg, a rich media editor that allows for content management using customizable rich media blocks. The blocks can be easily rearranged and styled to build all types of structures, from simple content containers to advanced interactive layouts. The outcome Despite the short timeframe and quite a complex design, we delivered an optimized, elegant solution. Thanks to the team’s combined and coordinated effort, Mammoth can showcase their innovative initiatives and share their expertise.
