A smarter solution to manage energy consumption at the office or home Once again joining forces with the Alphabet/Google company, Sidewalk Labs, Blue Label Labs helped design and develop the app for Mesa: a plug-and-play system that reduces energy consumption at the home or office. The app we created allows users to interface with the Mesa kit’s provided smart plugs, sensors, and thermostats. Each endpoint connects to the app to provide real-time analysis and feedback of energy consumption at a location as well as simple tools to interface with individual or groups of devices. Our iterative design and testing methods allowed us to create a product that’s easy to use and informative, allowing users to easily create cost-saving power plans as well as make manual adjustments when necessary.

Users also see additional value for doing laundry through the app thanks to the Tide Rewards with every purchase.
The life & legacy of a legendary artist via AI and virtual tours. Blue Label Labs partnered with Microsoft to design & develop this new app so art lovers can get an unprecedented inside look at the life and work of one of the most iconic artists of all time. Sol LeWitt’s larger-than-life wall drawings are acclaimed around the world. He influenced an entire generation of artists as a founder of Conceptual and Minimal art. We were able to leverage world-class artificial intelligence (AI) and image recognition technology to allow audiences to take a picture of any piece of LeWitt art across the globe to get more information about it.
Millions of downloads. Hundreds of thousands of daily users. The Blue Label Labs team partnered with the Bloomberg back-end development teams to give the Bloomberg News app its first full design & front-end development refresh in years. The Bloomberg News team provided an updated set of APIs, under our direction, to tap into their pre-existing, universal CMS, while we managed the re-design of the app from the ground up. We followed our typical Agile processes to move screens and features into development as soon as they were ready—and well-before the app was fully designed.
Used by cities like Toronto for more effective urban planning Delve by Sidewalk Labs (a Google company) has radically shifted urban planning with sophisticated AI and machine learning to produce millions of possibilities each with a delve score, producing real-world profit centers and maximizing space. UK developer Quintain used delve to design and develop Wembley Park, resulting in an additional 195 more units, with 2% more square footage, 2% more sunlight hours and 10% increase to open space over traditional methods. Sidewalk Lab’s team partnered with Blue Label Labs to design and develop this web-based product that provides developers & city planners (like Quintain) with an easy-to-use interface that gives them fast, real time results.

The world’s leading dealer of luxury watches gets an app befitting its prestige The largest global dealer of watches, Watchbox, needed a mobile solution that could keep pace and deliver the same quality of service as their lustrous website and white glove sales agents. Watchbox sought out Blue Label Labs to create an interconnected, hyper-personalized experience for users. By working closely with the Watchbox team and directly with their most avid users, we created a stylish, functional product that improves the most treasured features like “The Watchbox” that catalogs and displays users’ collections. Because we were able to use and repurpose existing integrations, the Watchbox apps now provide a proper mobile app that we know users love, thanks to our feedback-driven, iterative development process.
Launching a bold new flagship app for an iconic media brand Under the new ownership, Salesforce Founder & CEO, Marc Benioff, TIME came to us with the goal of creating something innovative and with “wow factor” in the news space. They had few preconceived notions of what this would be or what this could look and feel like, but wanted to ensure a wide-cross section of their organization was involved from Day One—everyone from sales to editorial to technology. After taking them through our Design Sprint & Product Strategy phases, we put design prototypes in front of current & prospective TIME readers. We’re now in full flight development and the result will be a futuristic way of consuming news by taking queues from today’s most popular streaming apps, social media and immersive design.
Brink’s, the armored car cash management business, serves businesses in over 100 countries via its almost 80K employees Brink’s has begun their Digital Transformation effort with their new blubeem branded suite of digital cash management solutions. To supplement their efforts, Brink’s came to Blue Label Labs to lead the strategy, design and development of a set of POS (point-of-sale) system apps. These POS apps allow retailers to get same day access to the cash deposit that will be picked up by Brink’s armored car drivers at a later date. This access to cash allows retailers the liquidity and working capital to use immediately. We started the effort by building apps for the Clover app marketplaces–given their US-dominance in the POS space—and we’ve continued on to support integrations/apps with dozens of other POS systems via customer iOS & Android tablet apps.
Launching a new app for a business The Washington Post called “the Starbucks of bubble tea” While the previous KFT app was functional, it was lacking in a solid user experience, and far behind the competition when it comes to appearance, best practices in design & user loyalty. KFT had been using a white-labeled app from a pre-existing solution provider (GrubHub/LevelUp) which understandably had limitations. We designed & developed a state-of-the-art app that not only provides Kung Fu Tea a way to drive more sales and in-app engagement, but also for its loyal bubble tea-loving customers, an experience worthy of the brand’s reputation. This app is currently serving KFTs 300+ US locations and 300,000+ annual customers.
World renown hospital has a new approach to addition treatment & research In collaboration with The Mayo Clinic, Blue Label Labs designed and developed a set of mobile apps and an administrative web portal that provides patients with substance use disorders access to their care team, therapeutic tools and useful resources to better manage their recovery and improve their outcomes. This effort began with a 2-week Remote Design Sprint to rally a diverse set of Mayo stakeholders around a common vision. Together, we discovered the need to tackle the challenge of taking traditional group therapy benefits and bringing them into an effective mobile experience—and validating the clinical results and outcomes needed for a successful platform. The Design Sprint received universal praise from the client and both institutional and third-party research grants to continue design and development of the app for both clinical & research uses.

Helping this icon of the music industry engage with hundreds of thousands of musicians We worked with Fender’s CMO to help their internal Product Teams and Artist Marketing Teams to conceptualize new ideas and engagement strategies for their buyers. We worked on multiple concepts including the Fender Artist App: a way to serve the Fender artist community by enabling artists and their teams to order products in a seamless and efficient way. We also explored new ways to engage new guitar players who were looking for help in choosing the right guitar for them. We also explored some “blue sky” concepts like virtual guitar play.
An app used by all 1,200 Major League Baseball players and their agents to manage their careers The union that represents all MLB players (the MLB Players Association) came to us with an outdated app that didn’t meet player needs, and thus was rarely used. It was our job to fix the user experience and uncover what players truly wanted and needed. The task was not an easy one. The goal was to provide players what they need when they need it—so as to allow them to focus on what they do best: play baseball. Our redesign effort resulted in a 50% increase in monthly active users—saving the Players Association time and money by avoiding “more manual”/people-based support of player requests and needs.

Uniquely built inside former shipping containers, Cirque Coffee locations are purpose-built to get customers in and out with their cashless, mobile-only ordering platform. This, in turn, allows baristas to focus on what they do well—make a great coffee—as well as socialize with customers without handling those Lincolns & Hamiltons.
