For one of the leading European hotel chains, research was conducted to explore the possibilities of blockchain usage. Main research was centered about the idea of loyalty program based on blockchain. A conclusion was that using blockchain for this particular purpose wouldn’t serve any technological benefits, compared to ‘classical’ databases. Marketing benefits of such technology should be considered as well. Another approach tested was to create a full currency, which can work as a loyalty points. This approach was much more promising, especially if it was combined with support on hotels premises, including transaction in hotel bar, restaurant etc. The best and most prospective possibility would be to implement this currency into the whole ecosystem - allowing biggest operations, like booking a room via it as well. This would allow bigger customer retention, as the currency will make bookings in this hotel chain easier. We are collaborating with Deloitte on a spin-off project for the automotive industry leader, BMW. A current example of the work we are undertaken involves a dedicated data architecture and analysis technology stack deployed by our R&D department. The goal of the project is to track the vehicles produced by the customer, on their way from the factory to the car dealers. Each car transmits frequent messages detailing its current position and the state of the sensors. This data must be matched with detailed information about the vehicle, which is stored in another system. The number of incoming messages is planned to be very high, so all of the processing is completed by the distributed architecture, using state-of-the-art Big Data tools. The combined team for this project is comprised of senior and lead level Engineers, all with a solid commercial and scientific background in the field of Big Data. Our specialists are responsible for developing the entire processing chain: integrating the third-party services and creating Spark jobs which merge the data to then be sent to the front-end, which visualizes the cars in real time. Additionally, we are also creating a REST API, which enables the data to be accessed via an HTTP interface.
