Our client is one of the largest healthcare service providers in the UK. They manage thousands of hospitals and care units providing healthcare to the people of the UK. Apart from multispeciality hospitals, diagnostic clinics, and pharmacies are also managed by our client. They make healthcare services more efficient and accessible. Our client is responsible for the smooth working and data management of thousands of hospitals and clinics across the UK. The doctors working at these hospitals and clinics would generate hundreds and thousands of discharge, referral, and follow-up letters daily for patients across each medical facility. To maintain patient records, data teams of our client would have to manually assess, classify, and update the data from these diagnosis letters into specific categories of: Discharge Follow-ups Referrals Due to the high volume of letters, a sizable team was deployed to analyze these letters and manually classify them into the central Hospital Information Management System (HIMS) of our client. Manually feeding and categorizing the data into the systems was time-consuming and resource-expensive. It also had a high chance of errors/discrepancies. Looking at the massive volume of letters to be read and manually classified, Maruti Techlabs designed a machine-learning model that would automatically extract the data from the letters and classify them into the 3 set categories without any human intervention. Initially, the confidence score was 80% at the time of model deployment. It was then followed by 85% with over 6 months of supervised training. Our client is an online platform for photographers and artists to find out where and how their images are being used online. Our client enables artists to find and resolve cases of unauthorized usage of their images. With the internet and the overall accessibility it provides, image theft has increased exponentially over the years. Whether out of sheer unawareness or willful malice, many people steal the photographer's intellectual property without permission or any credit. One such instance happened in 2012 when John (name changed to maintain confidentiality), a photographer, was battling online image theft. It led him to build the platform, wherein artists and photographers upload their portfolios/images and check if someone has used their work anywhere else on the internet. This platform then performs image matching and searches for similar images from millions on the internet. The challenge here was that the platform was prone to a high level of false-positive and false-negative results, leading to incorrect results and confusion. The platform was based on a logistic regression model with a precision of less than 65%. It gave out many incorrect results for the users. To fix this problem, the client started looking for a solution that measures the exact degree of visual similarity between the images instead of simply classifying the images into positive and negative results. With the help of the training datasets available, our engineers designed a search engine using computer vision technology to improve the precision of image detection. The search engine now supports different formats, including JPG, PNG, JPEG, TIFF, WEBP, GIF, and PDF. After successful testing of the final search engine, we deployed it on the cloud on an AWS instance. Our client manufactures more than 10,000 premium-quality spare parts for Asian, American, and European vehicles. For the smooth functioning of our client, correctly stocking up inventory to meet sales and demand of parts is as important as maintaining the highest manufacturing standards for those parts. The team of our client prepared a mathematical formula to predict the sales cycle of different parts. They used this formula to ensure accurate stocking up of inventory. As the mathematical formula helped predict the sales cycle, it formed the basis of the most crucial pillars of their business - inventory management, restocking, maintaining the warehouse, and optimizing the shipping process. Over time, they found that the mathematical formula was not accurately predicting the upcoming demands. It resulted in overstocking & understocking of different parts and, consequently, loss of potential sales and profit. Predicting sales numbers for newly manufactured parts and parts that were only prototypes was extremely difficult as they had little to no historical data to base our predictions on. To predict sales for new parts/prototypes, we relied on relevant characteristics that the existing parts shared with the prototypes. The client provided data through their APIs, which resulted in skewed data. It proved to be another significant challenge as it impacted model training greatly. Our team built an API that helped us extract more current data to overcome this. Finally, the model was retrained with the corrected data. The collaboration has improved the accuracy of predicting the sale of different vehicle parts for our client.
