The Movie: Memorial Of Kutaisi

In 2023, we produced Memorial of Kutaisi, a full-length documentary film that narrates the story of the Glory Memorial, a monument unveiled in 1981 in Kutaisi and demolished in 2009 to make space for Georgia’s Parliament building. The project required a comprehensive approach—from historical research and cinematography to restoration of archival footage, original soundtrack creation, and innovative graphic design. The film explores the monument’s rise and fall, blending historical documentation with artistic storytelling to deliver a powerful visual and emotional narrative. The client’s goal was to produce a historically accurate yet visually engaging documentary that would resonate with audiences on multiple levels. They sought a team capable of managing every aspect of production, from concept to completion, while incorporating immersive elements such as silent cinema aesthetics and restored archival visuals. As the creative authors of the project, our mission was to reconstruct the monument’s legacy through compelling interviews, artistic visuals, and a modernized cinematic approach. Our contribution to the project was comprehensive and multifaceted. We planned and executed the entire production process, conducting shoots across two key cities. Locations were carefully selected to reflect the historical significance of the monument and the communities around it. Logistical and technical preparations ensured high production quality, with professional lighting, sound recording, and camera work. Interviews with critical figures, including the monument’s project leader, a former mayor of Kutaisi, and a local historian, offered valuable insights into the monument’s creation, demolition, and cultural impact. These interviews became the emotional core of the film. A key challenge lay in processing archival footage, much of which was damaged or degraded. We employed artificial intelligence to restore these visuals, meticulously recovering their detail and bringing them to life in high definition. This process seamlessly integrated archival material with newly filmed content, preserving the authenticity of historical events. Silent cinema elements were another signature feature of the film. Custom-designed intertitles, styled to evoke early 20th-century aesthetics, delivered contextual storytelling during wordless sequences, blending modern production techniques with vintage cinematic language. The film’s auditory experience was equally significant. Our audio engineering team composed six original music pieces, combining electronic and post-punk elements to reflect the film’s tone and themes. The soundtrack underscored silent segments, enhancing their emotional gravity and immersing viewers in the film’s atmosphere. The music was crafted to be both haunting and meditative, complementing the visuals with precision. Once the film was complete, we designed and executed its marketing campaign to ensure visibility and engagement. The documentary’s reception exceeded expectations, sparking widespread discussions across various communities. Its emotionally charged subject matter and artistic execution ignited debates, with responses ranging from praise to controversy. The film resonated so deeply with the local audience that it inspired a public petition advocating for the monument’s restoration. This reaction underscored the documentary’s cultural and social impact, as it not only raised awareness but also catalyzed action. Memorial of Kutaisi remains one of our most ambitious and rewarding projects, highlighting our ability to blend research, artistry, a nd technical expertise to produce a film of lasting significance. By reviving lost visuals, incorporating modern production techniques, and crafting an immersive auditory experience, we created a documentary that preserves history while inspiring dialogue. Its success is a testament to the power of storytelling and our team’s ability to deliver meaningful, high-impact projects that bridge the past and present. Read More
